School Routines & Curriculum

The school day starts with Breakfast Club from 0900 and Tutor time at 0915. Targets for the day, any equipment needed and changes in the day explained.

There are two lessons then a 20 minute break from 1100 to 1120. Two more lessons, then all students bring a packed lunch to eat at 1300 to 1345. There are various lunch clubs including ICT, Music and the weekly Student Council. Enrichment activities take place on three afternoons. These include PE, aerobics, “spinning”, gym, badminton, climbing; Floristry at college; Hairdressing, Art, swimming and many more. Mondays are directed afternoons as appropriate to need: Social and Life skills and literacy for KST3 and KST4 and NCFE Employability skills for KST5.

School finishes Monday to Thursday at 15.30. There are optional Homework Clubs which are well attended and run on two afternoons after school to 1615. We arrange for taxis to collect later.

On Fridays girls go home after End of The Week Assembly and rewards/ weekly prize-giving at 1415.

 

There is currently 1 key stage 3 class; an SEN/ vulnerable key stage 4 group; a fast-track 2 year GCSE year 10 group; a mixed GCSE repeat grade key stage 4/5 group, and a sixth form GCSE repeat/ college/AS level group. In addition the inclusion unit delivers individual personalised learning and group tuition as required.

All key stage 3 and 4 students study either Entry Level or GCSE English, Maths, ICT, Science and Art. The school is as registered examination centre. Currently the core subjects are studying the OCR syllabus.

PHSE follows Entry Level GCSE. French, Music and Needlepoint are recreational hobbies. All classes have access to practical cookery lessons and running the school’s Enterprise project, a cafe to support the local YMCA.

NCFE qualifications are underway in PE for key stage 4 and 5.

Key stage 5 students are studying a Floristry qualification one afternoon at the local college. They are also registered for the NCFE Employability skills.

NCFE levels 1,2 and 3 progression (AS level equivalent) in Creative Arts (Hairdressing) is a popular option.

All students from year 10 onwards will be considered for readiness for work experience placements which take place after the June examinations have finished.
